The AST Awards and Grants Committee is soliciting applications for the 2008 Awards and Grants Program.
Application deadlines are:
AST UNSOLICITED ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
1. Funding for the 2008 Awards and Grants will be dependent upon the budgetary constraints.
2. Nominee(s) and nominator(s) for the Achievement Awards must be members of the AST. Membership must be active by November 30, 2007. Membership dues must be paid to date by March 1, 2008. Otherwise, the nomination(s) will not be considered for funding.
3. Becoming a member of AST has never been easier. Simply visit the AST website to complete an online application. All new member applications must be completed by Friday, November 2, 2007.
4. To nominate an individual for an AST Achievement Award, please select the appropriate CATEGORY from the menu.
AST FACULTY AND FELLOWSHIP GRANTSThe AST supports a wide range of basic and clinical research topics. Research topics that involve under-represented areas including minorities, women and pediatrics are strongly encouraged. The AST also encourages applications from women and minority researchers (as defined by the NIH). AST members should bring this program to the attention of their colleagues in the field of transplantation at their institutions and to support their applications.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. Funding for the 2008 Awards and Grants will be dependent upon the budgetary constraints.
2. Grants will be awarded to best deserving and qualified applicants in each category.
3. Individuals applying for the Faculty Grants must be active members of the AST by December 14, 2007. Membership dues must be paid to date by March 1, 2008. Otherwise, the grant application(s) will not be considered for funding.
4. Individuals applying for the Fellowship Grants must be sponsored by an AST member. Membership must be active by December 14, 2007. Membership dues must be paid to date by March 1, 2008. Otherwise, the grant application(s) will not be considered for funding.
5. Becoming a member of AST has never been easier. Simply visit the AST website to complete an online application. All new member applications must be completed by Friday, November 2, 2007.
6. All complete applications received by the submission deadline will be reviewed and scored by the AST Awards and Grant Committee comprised of a broad panel of researchers from a number of institutions who have widespread expertise in clinical and basic science in all specialties of solid organ transplantation. The Committee will place primary emphasis in evaluating applications on scientific strength and the preparation of the candidate for the proposed research.
7. Disclaimer for the Clinical Science Grants: The AST will not assume responsibility for any clinical study funded by the AST Awards and Grants Program. Such proposals must be IRB-approved. Any responsibility will be assumed by the PI and the funded institution.

* NOTE: In the event that no Fellowship Grant application will qualify for the AST/JDRF Grant, these funds may be allocated to support a Faculty Grant application focused on type I diabetes. Funding of this grant will be dependent upon budgetary constraints of both co-sponsoring organizations.
